The musical “Oliver!” is an exciting and dramatic story spiced with humor, great dancing and a bunch of delightful children.
This year’s summer play is full of exuberant music, drama and plenty of scenes with the irresistible street boys and girls.
Based on Charles Dickens’ masterful novel, the musical takes us back to 1835 London, with dark, stuffy orphanages for orphaned boys and girls and seedy taverns where dubious thieves and other miscreants play their underhanded games.
Dramatic situations at the workhouse and the funeral home, festive life in the pub “The Three Crutches” and impressive dances on Paddington Green and in London’s more sinister alleyways, easily and elegantly succeed each other, becoming a sweepingly beautiful and entertaining whole, tied together by Lionel Bart’s inspiring lyrics and music.
