Blåvand & the North Sea

The beaches are 25 minutes away

Blåvand, Vejers and Henne Strand are some of the widest beaches in Denmark — and in summer, the places to stay there fill up early and get expensive. Arnbjerg Pavillonen is a 25-minute drive inland: same beaches, calmer nights, free parking.

What to do out there

Blåvand

The lighthouse, the Tirpitz bunker museum built into the dunes, and a beach so wide you lose sight of people. Busy in July, wonderfully empty in autumn.

Vejers and Henne Strand

Wide family beaches — at Vejers you can drive your car right onto the sand, which children tend to find more exciting than the sea itself.

The Wadden Sea

A UNESCO World Heritage site starting just south of us. Guided mudflat walks in summer, oyster safaris in winter, and the black sun — hundreds of thousands of starlings — in spring and autumn.

If it rains

• Legoland Billund — 30 minutes
• Ribe, the oldest town in Denmark, with its Viking museum — 35 minutes
• Varde Museum and the miniature town — in town, 10 minutes’ walk

Staying here instead of at the beach

Many guests staying in a holiday house on the coast book a night or two with us at the start or end of the trip — for a bed made by someone else and a dinner they didn’t have to cook. See the rooms, or ask at reception where the wind is calmest that day.
